Eating a handful of almonds could help people lose weight by suppressing their appetite for the rest of the day, a study claims- The telegraph.

While munching on almonds and sharing this news I remember, our mother and grandmother used to give us BADAM MILK (almonds in milk) especially before and during exams. Almonds are considered as great brain booster that may help us to perform better during examination…

Foods that are quickly digested cause blood sugar to rise quickly and then drop  makina person feeling hungry. while almonds cause a slower and steadier rise in blood sugar and insulin that leaves person feel fuller for long period – claims the experts. This makes foods that are low on the index more effective at preventing us from overeating, and a healthier option for diabetes sufferers, they reported in the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism last year.

Prof Richard Mattes, of Purdue University in Indiana, US, who led the study, said participants who ate a breakfast containing whole almonds felt full for longer and recorded lower concentrations of blood glucose after breakfast and lunch than people who did not eat a low-glycemic breakfast.

However, Almonds may not be considered as typical diet food because they do contain high fat and calories. Although these nuts contain fat most of it is heart healthy unsaturated type that can make you feel full. The suggests that including nuts such as almonds may reduce risk of Heart disease by helping you to lower LDL. you can think of adding almonds to your weight loss plan as it will provide a healthy amount of fiber to keep you full and thus enable you to reduce overall calorie intake,- as per article published on

Combine almonds with sugar-free dried fruit for a healthy snack that will keep you feeling full for several hours. Keep individual servings of almonds in snack bags or reusable containers so they are always handy when you get hungry. Search through cookbooks to find ways to incorporate almonds in your diet in place of less healthy foods.

Wow, one more reason to  munch the nut- almond. I am going for it now; as a healthy snack option, in a way to lose weight.  Will try at least for a month and then will share the result …
