You may worry about eating pizza, burger or potato chips outside especially if you are diet conscious. You know that fat and calories from such foods ruin your diet plan. However, have you taken a look inside your fridge? Your fridge may be piling with lots of food detrimental to your health. These food items contribute to extra calories, sugar, fat and salt. So discard these worst foods and replace them with healthy one.

Processed meat

People consuming processed meat have 42% higher risk of developing heart disease and 19% higher risk of type 2 diabetes, according to study result conducted by researchers from Hardvard School of Public Health. However, the link is not found to be significant in people consuming unprocessed meat.

Processed meat is a meat preserved by smoking, curing, salting or addition of chemical preservatives. Higher concentration of sodium raises a blood pressure level, and high nitrate preservatives risk for arterial blockages. Furthermore, processed meat is claimed to link with colorectal cancer risk.

Ditch processed meat from your fridge and look for the brands low in nitrate or sodium.

Sugar-sweetened beverages

Are you sugar savvy and like to stock your fridge with sugar-sweetened beverages? Beware…regular drinking of sugary beverages increase a genetic risk of obesity, according to researchers from Hardvard School of Public Health. Obesity, or overweight, is a predictor of major health problems like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, stroke and liver and gallbladder disease.

No calorie drink like plain water or green tea offer good hydration to the body.

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise is one of the most significant wreckers in your fridge. As condiments add flavor to tasteless food, and make them more appealing. Mayonnaise is not lagging behind in such a tendency. However, a spoonful of mayonnaise adds 100 extra calories and 10 gm of fat even you eat by spreading on anything.

Instead of mayonnaise use other low-calorie condiments such as mustard or salsa.

Bottled-salad dressing

Salad-dressing not only high in fat and calories but also kills the purpose of eating nutritious salad. To counterbalance the reduced amount of fat manufactures may add refined oil and sugar to make dressing testier.

Don’t select dressing if nutritional label indicates calorie value above 100 and presence of refined oil.

Ice creams

Ice-cream is highly accessible and the most favorite dessert of many of us. However, your delicious cone is the biggest offender for health risk as they are packed with a shocking amount of calories and fat. A study conducting nutritional analysis of ice-creams from major brands show they are the richest store house of calories and fat. Study report was published on CBSnews.

Replacing ice-cream with fruit juice or fresh yogurt is the healthiest option.

Frozen fries

‘Frozen chips are the cause of cancer’ according to a news report from the Telegraph. Significant amount of acrylamide formed during a factory process of fries. Acrylamide is a well-known human carcinogenic agent, a potential to cause cancer.

Always select unprocessed potatoes, as they come up with all nutrients without added preservatives.

Ready to bake dough

A short of time made us to use ready to bake cookie dough frequently. However, one study shows this dough is not ready to eat and can cause E.coli outbreak, an important cause of gastrointestinal illness.

The study was published in Oxford Journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases. Flour used to prepared dough may be the carrier for the transmission of E.Coli pathogen, as it’s only the ingredient not undergoing “kill step’.

Making your own dough will be the safest way to prevent such outbreaks.

Frozen white bread

As white bread is exclusively prepared from refined grains lacks nutritional value. White bread has a high glycemic index, a potential to raise a blood-sugar level. Fiber amount from this bread is low compared to whole-wheat bread.

Eating white bread in excess raises the risk of cancer according to research mentioned on dailymail. Those eating five slices a day are two times more prone to develop kidney cancer as compared to those eating one or half slices. Researchers suggest a dramatic rise in blood-sugar level with refined grains may fuel the cancerous growth.

Replace white bread from your fridge with whole-wheat bread.
